ABOUT

CITY HALL

CAPE TOWN
MusicScape started in 2001 as a young audience development initiative. A turning point came in 2016 with our first internet livestream from the highly acclaimed 35th Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition. The final gala concert held in the Cape Town Opera House was broadcast live to 164 countries with nearly 30 thousand viewers worldwide. In the same year we began a regular collaboration with the National Youth Music Competition to broadcast live from their Gala Concerts. MusicScape has been involved in recording or live internet broadcasts of various prominent events involving the Cape Town Philharmonic, including the highly popular CPO Community Galas (2018, 2019), the Mandela Trilogy in collaboration with the Cape Town Opera, Symphonic Praise 2019 with the Cape Town Gospel Choir, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem presented by the Duet Endowment Trust, and the Hemp van Vlam / Shirt of Fire world premiere in 2016. While Cape Town City Hall, the home of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, will be closed for an unforeseen period as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, you can find the CPO’s concerts online using MusicScape’s video streaming services. “…if you can’t be there live, this is certainly the second best solution…” – Sir Simon Rattle, former chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker
